Get to know Brandon

Brandon is as curious as he is kind; he accepts all people, learning from his years of travel that most people are good at heart. He is driven to travel with purpose, to open his mind and heart and to grow and evolve with the knowledge that there's so much more out there than a small Ohio town can offer. He feels it's as important as air to breathe for each human to step outside one's comfort zone, to experience and gain a larger sense of understanding of the unfamiliar. He knows fear can instill prejudices that can poison the mind and heart when solely surrounded by "safe" comforts. Brandon is a passionate creative who thrives on adventure, always seeking new experiences, new landscapes, and incredible wild things to fuel his art. He is constantly seeking understanding and spiritual connection with Nature by visiting and bearing witness to the world's sacred places.

"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." –Mark Twain

Not all who wander are lost

Long ago, Brandon decided the soul-sucking nine-to-five lifestyle was not for him. He realized after years of feeling lost and disconnected that he had to force a change that felt impossible. He's spent over a decade working for himself, traveling, shooting photography, healing with herbalism, and focusing on what feels right. He does not chase money or fame; he created this website to have a gallery to showcase his artwork. Brandon is driven by discovery of self and of the natural world. Few things give purpose like his family, his art, and his spiritual journey.

Walking along the green path

Walking along the green path means choosing a more natural lifestyle. The way you view the natural world and all the living creatures that call this planet home changes, and you no longer feel apart from it. Native Americans often referred to life as the wind that moves through all things, and they saw every detail as sacred. In this animistic view, magic is not the power to perform supernatural acts, but rather magic is all around. The animals, the plants and the rocks of our world were alive, just as you and I. In my photography artwork, I strive to remove the human element to showcase the natural world and her sacred places. My hope is that the viewer of my work is so awed that they have a building desire to go explore and then to protect this amazing world.

Modern cultures teach that the forest is scary and that Nature is in fact something to battle against, but the truth is you are an animal, and you come from the same space dust and evolutionary path that all living things have come from. The forest is only as scary as you let your mind believe. The moment I stopped looking at the forest as a desolate place of monsters and mysteries, it became part of me, and now there is no finer place to find peace and to connect spiritually. It’s no wonder why so many people feel lost and depressed, because we’ve been separating ourselves from Nature for so long. The key is to immerse yourself in it, take your shoes off and plant your feet flat onto the soft earth and dangle them in a stream. Sit still and breathe the fresh air. Let your mind settle and simply listen to the voices of our ancestors, and to what mother earth has to say to you.

Long ago, I turned away from the corporate rat race, said goodbye to toxic family, and set out on a journey of self discovery. I grew up feeling lost and like I didn’t belong. My journey along the green path saved my life. Now it matters to me what I put in my body, and I use medicinal herbs to heal myself and others. I work to conserve, protect and educate, because if you feel what I’ve felt, and see what I’ve seen, then you’d know how fucking amazing the natural world is. You’d realize this is the only planet we have, and that we’d all be doomed if a single pollinator species, like the bee, were to die off. That’s why I’ve worked for years to save up money to buy previously deforested land and to protect it, allowing it to grow wild and untamed. That’s why I dedicated an acre of abused land and planted over 30,000,000 wildflower seeds to support the local pollinators. And why I’m planning to develop an endangered medicinal plant sanctuary and educational center. The green path has given me everything I needed, and so much more. From an understanding of where I came from to who I am now, and a deep focus of who I am to become. I’m no longer deeply sad and confused about who I am and what I should be doing with my life. I’ve been gifted with the purpose and responsibility to inspire, conserve and educate.

“Only when the last tree has been cut down, the last fish been caught, and the last stream poisoned, will we realize we cannot eat money.” –Cree Indian Prophecy

Future goals

When Brandon's not traveling, he's working on his passions in herbalism. He has established himself as an expert in the field, and has opened Green Path Academy: School of Herbalism. He's currently renovating the Woodland Herbal workshop with hopes of opening a storefront in the next year.

Beyond herbalism, Brandon's enjoys exploring and spending time in the wilderness, as well as photographing the many moods of Nature and the many faces of wildlife that call this world home. In the future, Brandon is aiming to travel more, shoot more, and teach more photography workshops, while working toward a balance between travel/photography and herbalism. He currently offers photography, writing, marketing, coaching, teaching, and trip planning services.

The art of herbalism

Brandon is a herbalist and natural healer who works with plant medicines and runs Woodland Herbal and Green Path Academy: School of Herbalism when he's not traveling. Humans have used plants to heal, feed and nourish our bodies since the dawn of time, and even with our current understanding of modern medicine, plants are as important today as they were thousands of years ago. He has studied and practiced the art of natural healing with herbalism for nearly a decade, working with tens of thousands of people to aid general health and wellness, and to gain a more balanced lifestyle. He regularly helps others with pain and inflammation, sleep troubles and lucid dreaming, focus and memory, anxiety and stress relief, mood stabilization and depression, skin care and first aid, detox and weight management, and immune system support.

Favorite quotes

“For those who have experienced the joy of being alone with nature there is really little need for me to say much more; for those who have not, no words of mine can even describe the powerful, almost mystical knowledge of beauty and eternity that come, suddenly, and all unexpected.” –Jane Goodall

“Even a wounded world is feeding us. Even a wounded world holds us, giving us moments of wonder and joy. I choose joy over despair. Not because I have my head in the sand, but because joy is what the earth gives me daily and I must return the gift.” –Robin Wall Kimmerer

“A true healer is an intermediary to the sacred, cultivating the dual roles of shaman, master of intuited knowledge, and sage, master of scholarly knowledge, connecting above and below, inside and outside, energy and matter.” –Taoist medicine

“The comfort you find in the rustle of leaves or the rush of a river isn’t coincidence; it’s connection. We owe it to ourselves and future generations to ensure that connection doesn’t turn into a long-lost echo.” -Unknown
